This
Craigellachie has been regarded as liquid Crème Brulée. Coffee beans,
roasted nuts, Turkish coffee with cream were a couple more associations
our panel mentioned. The rich vanilla-sweetness, coming from a top-class
ex-bourbon cask make the whole thing superbly round, harmonic &
drinkable. Very good whisky from this still under-estimated
distillery!

This is
the shapeshifter within our new range. Each time it tastes differently –
Once it`s like a white rum with mint leaves, another time the fruits
dominate (quince, lemon), at a third time there`s a delicate smokiness
coming in (more like burning paper) – all enveloped with a heavy oiliness.
Maybe orange oil

Hogshead
A more or
less typical, mature mix of fruits & herbs. Yellow fruits and citric
ones we`d say. The spices are probably asian style – perhaps slightly ot
ones? And, well, yes – so we may have found the lemon grass malt here?
Anyway, it`s a beautiful older aged whisky with a lot of power and
complexity (these fruits & spices) – not an easy whisky again:
it clearly benefits from some
time, air & water.

Hogshead
Most
likely one of the oldest independent Laphroaigs bottled in recent years.
It starts typically tary/smoky, then switches to sweet/oily/complex and
leads towards smoky finish again (glowing bonfire?). It hasn`t become more
heavy or intense due to its older age but more refined & polished
(compared to its younger brothers & sisters), with complex aromas,
some fruit jam (banana?) in the background and a very long-lingering
finish.
Excellent!
